James lives in the New England High Country  of New South Wales just outside of Armidale with his beautiful wife Renee and three daughters. He thrives on being active and spending time outdoors and has a passion for a life of adventure, be it travelling, surfing, or hiking up a mountainside. Photography wise, James’ specialist areas include Landscape, Wedding, Portraiture, Family Shoots and Documentary. James focuses on a story telling approach towards photography, where his images are composed to capture a moment in time in its true essence.

Light Composition Moment

Convention suggests that a photographer stick to one type of photography and focus on this, but James disagrees. He prefers to hone his photography skills through composing images in a wider range of contexts. In doing so he believes that  he remains energised and excited to shoot. This approach also allows him to gather techniques and knowledge that can be applied to any context to produce a more evocative, beautifully crafted image.

“Now this doesn’t necessarily mean I am up for photographing your Great Auntie’s cat…then again, perhaps I am!!”

The forms of photography that James is most passionate about and gravitates towards are those where he can tell a story through his images. Think photographing families at play, breath taking scenes and natural beauty, weddings, creating an emotive portrait or documenting an annual shearing.

“I hold very strongly to the mantra that creating amazing photographs that stand the test of time requires a finely balanced interaction between composition, light and the decisive moment. Perfecting this balance is my goal as a photographer”

"There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment" - Robert Frank

Testimonials

"James photographed our wedding in November 2018. He is so easy to have around, and made us feel completely at ease, happy to accommodate our requests and offer his own suggestions when we were a bit lost! The finished product was fantastic, and we had our photos back within 3 weeks of the wedding. They are gorgeous. James makes the most of natural light, and captures beautiful, candid moments as they happen. Our day was filled with warmth, generosity, and happiness - and our photographs are the perfect reflection of this. Thank you, James!" - Ellen and Mick
